Smile x Future Ver.

"I am very honored to be awarded the grand prize in the first Hatsune Miku × GSC Illustration Contest, “Hatsune Miku Smile × Future”. I am overjoyed that my wish—to see my work take shape from a two-dimensional illustration into a three-dimensional figure—has been fulfilled.

I was deeply moved to see that the key elements I wanted to express were successfully conveyed, and that the concepts of “Smile = Good Smile” and “the past builds the future, and the future protects the past” were brought to life. When it was unveiled during the livestream, I felt a genuine sense that my vision had taken form, which made me incredibly happy. I was also delighted to see that tools such as the eyeleteer, round knife and bamboo spatula—commonly used in restoration work—were reproduced so faithfully.

Additionally, I sincerely apologize for giving the members of the Good Smile Company manufacturing team such a tough figure to make!

Through this process of turning my work into a figure, I had the opportunity to experience the production workflow firsthand and learned a great deal about aspects I had not previously considered in my illustration work. In particular, regarding the complex structure of the obi on the back, I gained a new perspective on how to recreate intricate reverse-side details while preserving the overall image, which I hope to apply in my future creations.

This large-scale illustration contest, spanning a full year with a total of 12 rounds, was an incredibly valuable opportunity for me. Even with a shared theme, I was able to encounter a wide range of ideas and expressions by other artists, making it a truly enriching experience. I very much look forward to the day when I can see all 12 winning illustrations in figure form.
